The South Green Street Church of Christ
It appears impossible to establish
the exact time when the church in Glasgow had its beginning.
Various local histories allege that Alexander Campbell
preached in Glasgow as early as 1823. However, Campbell's
first mention of Glasgow was in reference to a visit in
December of 1830, at which time he preached. Thus 1830 is
generally recognized as the beginning of the church in
Glasgow.
The South Green Street Church of
Christ is one of the largest and fastest growing churches of
Christ in Kentucky. In the past decade, we experienced a 95%
growth rate. As a church, we are committed to the concept of
being the body of Christ on earth today. Just as Jesus
functioned in the world through his physical body, He
continues to function in the world today through His spiritual
body, the church. We are trying to be Christ's point of
contact with the world.
To what do we owe our success in a
time when so many churches are declining? Well, I would credit
our growth to a number of things, but at the top of the list
would be our commitment to the word of God, a strong and
stable eldership, and a membership that exists in peace and
harmony. I believe people are looking for a church that avoids
social and political agendas and simply preaches the word of
God and consistently lives it out in their lives. And that is
what we are attempting to do.
If you are ever in the Glasgow area,
we would love to have you visit and worship with us. I can
assure you that you will receive a warm and friendly welcome.
Ministries
We are committed to the
priesthood of all believers and strive to involve every member
in the ministry. At the same time, we realize that as a body,
not everyone is gifted to perform the same functions.
Thus we have attempted to develop a program of work that is
broad enough to involve every member in ministry.
Presently, we have 50 ministries that offer nearly 200
specific works in which our members can become involved.
You may view our
Ministry Handbook,
which provides a description of each ministry and breaks down
all the specific duties under each ministry.

Work Plan
We have prepared this
2008 Work Plan
as a tool for the congregation to use during the coming year.
With 270 families and nearly 50 different ministry programs,
it is very challenging to communicate effectively with
everyone. We hope and pray that this
document helps to facilitate this communication not only
today, but throughout the year, as well.
We have asked each member of the
congregation to review this
Work Plan and
then challenge themselves for greater participation and
involvement in ministry. While every member cannot
participate in every ministry, there is a place for everyone.
Look at the work and see where you can make a positive
contribution. We also ask that you help us as we search for
additional areas of work that will allow us to expand the
breadth of our ministries in the years ahead.
If the Lord wills.
